This pattern combines historic photographs of anti-Vietnam War protests in San Francisco from the 1960s with recent photographs of demonstrations throughout the city, during which citizens expressed opposition to the Iraq War and more recently, to the use of drone warfare worldwide.

The American anti-war movement of the1960s turned public support away from the Vietnam War through demonstrations, student protests, popular music, and media attention. One of the photographs shows a 1960s anti-Vietnam War march in San Francisco’s Alamo Square, while another shows a breathtaking assembly of citizens, peacefully marching down San Francisco’s Market Street in solidarity against the Iraq War in 2003. A more recent image shows local activists holding signs that question the ethics, legality, and effectiveness of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV’s) – also known as “drones” – for military applications.
