This pattern includes an image of the 1989 Pride Parade in San Francisco, celebrating the 20-year anniversary of the Stonewall Riots in New York’s Greenwich Village – a cornerstone event in the LGBTQ equal rights movement– with recent photographs from pride events and demonstrations in San Francisco.

In 1989, for the first time in history, a group of 80 demonstrators shut down the Golden Gate Bridge during the morning rush hour. The group, called Stop AIDS Now Or Else, took their stance on the bridge to demand that the US government act with urgency to support AIDS research. Twenty-four years later, San Franciscans continue to advocate for equal marriage rights and celebrate the LGBTQ community during the annual Pride Parade – the largest gathering for the LGBTQ community in the nation.
